I actually wasn’t planning to pursue a career in software development. My first degree was in Bioengineering. I started my career as a sales engineer for image analysis systems, such as Karyotyping, Morphology software etc. I was amazed at how software helped the scientists and physicians to solve complex analytical challenges, improve diagnostics, and increase laboratory productivity.
In 2009, my family moved to Grand Rapids. It started a completely new journey in my life and I decided to make a big change in my professional career. I spent a year and a half in college, completing 49 credits on topics like databases and programming, and decided I really liked it. Once I completed the intro classes, I enrolled at GVSU and received my second masters degree in CIS. While at GVSU, I became interested in mobile development and helped a startup build an app called Aghelp. The company was selected as the 2017 Grand Rapids Business Journals’ Newsmakers Award Winner.
I love building useful things and constantly figuring out new puzzles. At MichiganLabs, we solve complicated business problems through the use of new and exciting technologies. Here, innovation is highly encouraged and differences are well embraced. We are all committed to improving the user’s experience and functionality. We build software like we’d want it built for us.
On the weekends, my family hosts our friends for game night. I like to try different games but so far my favorite game is Tichu. I also like trying new ingredients and cooking methods to create new recipes. Of course, disasters happen sometimes, but my sweet husband eats it up all no matter what.
