co-founder & managing partner

I’m a stereotypical software geek. Some of my earliest memories are taking apart an old computer at home and putting it back together (almost). In elementary school, I was given an old laptop and a book about BASIC and taught myself to write small programs. Throughout my undergrad at Grand Valley State University and Master’s at Michigan State, I loved the challenge of learning and the opportunities that software opened up. My Master’s thesis at Michigan State was Computer Security focused, I created a process which worked to fingerprint firewall’s so they could be identified.

After graduating, I joined GE Aviation in their Edison Engineering Development Program and rotated through multiple departments and projects. While at GE, I realized that not only did I like the technical challenge of software, I loved the challenge of interacting with others to solve problems and then leading a team to build that solution. That realization was the start of my journey to start MichiganLabs and build it into a place where we could have a highly technical group of people helping to solve problems while encouraging and challenging each other to solve problems and build software the way we would want it built for ourselves.

Outside of work, being a father and a husband keep me busy. My wife Leslie and two kids provide the opportunity to learn and grow in other ways. We’re heavily involved in our church and any other free time I get, you’ll find me at a golf course, enjoying the challenge of trying to hit a small white ball in a straight line.
